Creating trauma-informed, inclusive, and accessible peer and professional services every day.

Safely Connected, The Eating Disorder Centre (“SC”)  is a youth-run Canadian not-for-profit organization committed to supporting and educating people on the topic of eating disorders, disordered eating and exercising, and body image issues.

At the core of this mission is the awareness that eating disorder research, services, treatment and conversation are centered on the experiences of white, cisgender, endosex, heterosexual, thin, non-disabled, wealthy, women. Creating services, and reforming care requires the centering of the communities that were excluded, and the awareness of this stereotypes impact. Lived experience, research, and an analysis of the systems involved in this is crucial to this work. This is why all members of the Safely Connected staff belong to the transgender, intersex, BIPOC, disabled, and, or fat community. The organization also actively works with, and hires consultants from these communities in order to ensure the inclusion of diverse and multi-faceted experiences, and the accessibility of its services.

Our Programs

Training

Safely Connected offers trainings to organizations and eating disorder professionals. These workshops provide education and tools on how to provide trauma informed eating disorder care that is inclusive of and centered around the experiences of trans, intersex, disabled, fat, and BIPOC communities.

Chapters

Safely Connected Chapters Program works to create “Eating Disorder Centres” in Universities throughout Canada. The organization provides mentorship, resources, and training to students creating independent chapters on post-secondary campuses with support services, advocacy efforts, events, and information regarding eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image issues.
